Great Pubs and Cool Bars in Oxford.

Oxford, the ancient University town, and one of the most architecturally rich cities in England. Entire days can be wiled away amongst its dreaming spires and college buildings, drinking up the atmosphere of a town dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge.

But, of course, being a student town, other forms of drinking are also much in evidence. The bohemian Cowley Road area is home to all manner of restaurants, bars and clubs, from trendy cocktail bars to student-packed pubs, from the most upmarket of eateries to the humblest of pie shops.

Oxford Castle, once a royal residence, but a long neglected part of the city, has undergone a transformation that has seen both the old Gaol and Castle become a part of a vibrant urban space and home to some seroiusly
stylish bars, restaurants and the dynamic Oxford Art Venue.

Always popular with tourists, Oxford was to receive an incredible boost to its visitor numbers by playing host to a television series. Twenty-one years and 33 episodes ago Inspector Morse first appeared on our TV screens. Set in Oxford and adapted from the novels by Colin Dexter, it became a "must watch", attracting huge audience numbers and spawning huge book sales. Shops even started selling replica Jaguar motor cars, jigsaws, Morse mystery board games and novelty bank notes. Theres even a Morse Bar (Morse Bar Oxford)

Oxford's downsides: To be honest there aren't many, unless of course you're a commited 24/7 petrol head. Come to think of it, even for an ordinary jo who loves his car, Oxford's probably not going to be on your list of favourites.
Cycling - Oh Yes.
Walking - Oh Yes.
Jog - by all means if you're so inclined.
Driving - Oh NO !
